While procrastinating reading the day’s important news this morning, I came across a tip that I can honestly say is going to change my life (if it works!) and may change yours, as well.  Apartment Therpay’s The Kitchn posted this amazing tutorial on how to chill white wine quickly when you’re in a pinch.

Friends coming over in 20 minutes? Not a problem. The Kitchn says all you need to do it:

“Place a bottle of wine in an ice bucket or anything tall and wide enough to hold the bottle and some ice. Fill the bucket with ice and add a generous handful of salt. Give the bottle a twist to distribute the salt, and leave it to chill for a few minutes. It will be ice cold in no time.”

We haven’t tried this yet, but my goodness I am going to.  The first person to comment, telling us they tried it and reporting back on how it worked will receive a bottle of wine in the mail. Or, delivered to your door, if we’re friends. It may be cheap, because this site doesn’t make us any money yet, but it’ll be wine.  And who doesn’t love free wine?

Happy Drinking!

  1. This is an awesome tip. I haven’t tried it (so I don’t deserve a bottle of wine) but it’s on my to-do list for the weekend. Thanks for sharing!

Tried it some minutes ago, after I made some ice yesterday.
Worked up well, but I needed almost two hands of salt and about half an hour.
Next time I’ll use an old Whiskey-can (you know the cans in which the bottles are selled some time)

But I think you can keep your bottle of wine… unless you want to pay the delivery to germany ;)
