The Lost Finale: one final Lost themed party
Posted by: | CommentsI can’t believe after all this time it will be over come Sunday. For those of you who know what I’m talking about, I know you feel my pain. No matter how crazy some of these episodes were this season, LOST is still, hands-down, one of my most favorite TV shows ever. It had everything a good TV should: suspense (what was more suspenseful than the Others in seasons 1 and 2?!), love triangles (you know where I stand: Team Juliet), the classic villain (Ben, then Locke), mystery (How did polar bears get on that Island? And who WAS Illana?), the loveable character (Hurley), and, of course, eye candy (of which, there was plenty: Syaid, Sawyer, Jack, Kate, Jin…)
To commence the series we’re committed to having one last Lost-themed party, complete with Dharma Initiative beer and wine, and a variety of food to represent the different seasons, our favorite characters, and some of our favorite scenes.
Planning your own party? Here are some of our ideas. I’m going to share them with you, but only if you’ll share with
us (comments, comments) what you are planning to make!
- Pay homage to Jacob and the man in black with classic Black & White cookies. (thanks, Wendy, for the idea!) It can also be a throwback to the Walt-Locke checkers game in season 1. Read More→
Lost Themed Party Ideas – 3 Episodes to Go
Posted by: | CommentsThree episodes to go. And then what will we discuss Wednesday mornings at work? That, my friends, is the million dollar
question. In the meantime, three more episodes means three more crazy nights of Dharma Initiative wine and beer, and Island-inspired meals.
A few months ago, for the premier in fact, we blogged about using these printable Dharma Initiative labels for beer, wine and all kinds of food. We found a slew of Dharma Initiative labels on Max Picutres’ Blather. He even has labels for different types of wine! Merlot, Pinot Noir, etc. Cool, huh? He has labels for Mac & Cheese, Ranch Salad Dressing, just about everything.
If you’re looking for other fun LOST-inspired treats, check out these cupcakes I found on Neatorama. If you don’t have time to whip homemade cupcakes together for tonight’s show, pick up some already made cupcakes form the grocery store and just add the little planes and palm trees- you can probably find something that will work at toy store, party store, or Wal-Mart.
Also, I was seriously traumatized after the Sun/Jin death. If they kill off Hurley, I may have to write the producers a letter.
Score Big at Your Superbowl Party with Buffalo Chicken Dip
Posted by: | CommentsWe’ve saved the best football watching dip for last. This is the ultimate. The one. The thing that will have your guests talking and talking and talking. It’s simply the best Superbowl party dip ever.
I’d like to think I sat in my kitchen creating different concoctions until this one was born. But alas, that’s not what happened. As you know, Lia and I have day jobs. And we’re lucky this day job is a pretty fun place to work. Every so often we’ll have something like a “dip-off.” What is a “dip-off” you ask? Well, it’s when people bring in tasty dips for co-workers to sample and scrutinize, searching for a winner. The most recent winning dip was 89th and Broke co-founder Laura Zanzal’s Buffalo Chicken Dip. Yes, you heard that correctly. Buffalo Chicken dip. It’s like someone melted a wing and put it into dip form. DIP FORM.
We’ve altered the recipe to use canned chicken for time, but you can also boil and shred real chicken. Up to you. And you can cook it in the microwave. It’s so easy and so delicious you’ll want to cry.
Buffalo Chicken Dip
- 1 cup ranch dressing
- 3/4 cup Frank’s Red Hot®
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 (9 oz) cans of chicken, drained (sold by the tuna fish)
- 2 (8 oz) packages cream cheese, softened
Game on
Posted by: | CommentsFun fact about me: my boyfriend is a hardcore video game geek. I say that lovingly because he’s introduced me to some really fun games over the years such as Tapper and Dig Dug. And just like a good nerd does, he often Googles for the latest in in gaming news. And it was to my delight that our worlds intersected when he found these awesome cup cakes from a wonderful place called Steelhead Studio.
Apparently each year, the owner, Robin Dahlberg, has a game-themed party. This year, they made 100 different cupcakes celebrating a different game. See how many you can guess in the cute little quiz she made out of it. As for me, I’m totally making the Dig Dug and Tetris cupcakes for my next party.
A New Holiday Party Tradition…
Posted by: | CommentsI meant to post this before the holidays, but procrastination and last minute shopping got the best of me. This year, for our apartment’s before-mentioned holiday party, we tried something a bit different: we asked all of our guests to bring a toy for Toys for Tots. We collected the toys under the tree and donated them the next day at the Marine base. I wanted to share some photos, so our readers could keep this in mind for their parties next year! I can’t take credit for coming up with the idea all on my own, a co-worker was hosting a Toys for Tots party, which gave me the idea to incorporate it into ours. It was a huge sucess, and our guests seemed really excited to purchase toys for the organization. Do you ever incorporate charities into your parties? If so, do share your ideas! Some photos:

Look at all those toys!
